Dear Mayor Aldermen:
We were unable to submit our comments on beach nourishment via your blog, so…we want you to know fully support beach nourishment! Those who commented that BN was voted down previously are wrong…the bond funding plan was voted down by a handful of people but the property owner survey was overwhelmingly in favor! They are also wrong when they say buyers were warned about CBRA…we were not. In fact, our realtor told us "beach nourishment is in place." And who are "the developers?" Those who oppose BN are short sighted and apparently don’t understand the potential economic disaster that the whole area would suffer with out the beach and TOURISTS! They think taxes are high now? Just wait till the tourists go elsewhere because they can’t walk the beach at high tide. Thanks and please keep up the good work towards BN (and a terminal groin at the North end!). We look forward to the meeting on 7/24.

Ultimately the decision whether or not to implement Beach Nourishment — as it has always been — is a matter of affordability. With virtually no possibility of outside funding, NTB property owners would have to bear the considerable cost of Beach Nourishment…a cost that would go on indefinitely due to the need for constant sand replenishment. Whether or not NTB\’s property owners are willing to do so is unknown at this time.
While most everyone feels that a well nourished beach is necessary and will be great for both owners and visitors, I am concerned that the proposed method of financing is discriminate and should be reevaluated to more accurately reflect the benefit that everyone would receive from a well nourished beach. I suggest associating the financing with the assessed value of each individual property. Kevin Sanford, President, Shipwatch HOA
