I was not able to post this comment on the blog. I am no expert on the matter just a concerned property owner on the north end of the island. I received the survey for the beach nourishment project. It says that North Carolina does not permit the use of hardened structures. I am not sure if Biorock Technology (
http://www.biorock.net/Technologies/index.html) is an option, but maybe if instead of continuing to "patch" the beach with more sand, a long term Eco and tourist attractive solution is found. If you go on this website you’ll be able to see the pictures of shoreline stabilization or erosion control. Like I said before I am no expert but I believe the breakwater structures should offer natural barrier from the ocean. I believe they have been successfully used in Qatar, to protect the man made islands. I apologize if I have wasted your time. Thank you and have a great day.
